Tater Patch Players News:
Suzanne was the musical leader and source of great fun and energy for the past two Tater Patch Summer Camps for youth. She is also a great friend and stalwart supporter of Tater Patch and a phenomenal musical leader for kids in our community. Thelma "Bay" Cagle, who works with Suzanne and the choir is a gifted musician in many respects and, as she proved in Tater Patch's recent production of Our Town, a gifted actress.
If you don't have a young one in this age group but know someone who does, please pass this
information on.
Greetings from Suzanne Shull, music teacher from the Tater Patch summer workshop.
We are currently inviting new members to join the Jasper Community Children's Choir. This year we will have singers from 2nd through 8th grades. Next year we hope to have some high school members who will continue to assist with the group, both as mentors and lead singers.
Our rehearsals are Mondays 4:30-6:00 from September to May
at New Lebanon Presbyterian Church on Bent Tree Drive.
Conductors: Suzanne Shull and Thelma "Bay" Cagle
Fee: $100 fee for the year, covers workbook, music and administrative costs.
WEEKLY REHEARSALS
The 5:00 rehearsal hour this fall will include songs of many styles including music from musicals, folk music, church music and Christmas songs. We also include movement and musical games during our rehearsals.
WORKBOOK SESSIONS
Preceding the rehearsal at 4:30 each week will be an opportunity for singers to receive coaching in the new workbooks we are using this year, designed to promote individual growth in reading music. The Atlanta Young Singers organization has been using this workbook successfully since 2005 and seen a remarkable growth in the ability of their singers. It's also fun to do because the students have practice CDs and a list for checking off their accomplishments. Students who complete the first part of the workbook should be able to audition successfully for Georgia Middle School All-State choirs and those who finish the whole book will be able to make GA high school All-State choirs.
SOLO WORK WITH INDIVIDUALS
We make time by appointment for children to work on individual solos. We encourage students to perform for churches, schools, and civic groups: altogether, in small groups, or solo.
We would like to meet and place new singers on Monday, August 25 between 4:30 and 6 at New Lebanon. If you are unable to be there then you may make an appointment to come early or late to our rehearsals that start on September 8th.
Please call or email for an appointment time.
We ended our second year last May with 21 members (up from 12 the first year.) We have space and personnel right now to double last year's number and hope your child will be interested in joining.
Please feel free to call or email with questions concerning your child's involvement.
Sincerely yours,
Suzanne Shull
