Our Board of Directors has voted to put together an offer on the building we’re interested in. The Board met with interested members and generally received some very interesting a positive comments. It will be a challenge to raise the funds to buy this building, but the Board and the members present felt it was a challenge we could meet and that the time has come to move forward.
We’ll keep you posted as this unfurls.

The Tater Patch Board met with interested members and friends on August 27 at a church building that is for sale in Jasper. Our president discussed with the group the pros and cons of using the building in which we met as a theater venue. Some questions were asked and answered. There was a lot of talk about what we could do as a troupe if we had our own facility. Discussion was held as to the types of shows we could mount, how a theater facility could allow us to participate and help as a member of the Pickens County community, and to what other uses that building could be put as a revenue producer for the troupe. Some of the ideas put forth were: a no-cost children’s summer camp, showing movies, renting the space for meetings, concerts, receptions, etc.
During this discussion our president asked me to ask for input from you, our supporters and friends. What would you like to see Tater Patch do if they owned a modest size building such as this one? Bear in mind, for those that were not there, this particular building has movable chairs which can form a large open area, a carpeted and nicely sloped seating area, has no kitchen facilities, and would likely require us to extend the raised area at the end into the seating area to provide a workable sized stage, resulting in a seating capacity of around 125…
So we’d like you to post comments here on the blog and tell us what you think we should do as far as shows, music, fundraisers, community outreach, meetings, movies and the many other things we didn’t even discuss. All ideas will be passed on to the Board, and you will not be put in charge of anything unless you ask to be, we promise.
If you have any questions or ideas that you don’t wish to put on the blog, you may email Tater Patch Players through the “Contact Us” section of the website.

Tater Patch Players responded to a poll saying people in our area wanted dinner theater. We decided to stage it a little smaller and a little more casually that traditional dinner theater. Our Vice President, Carl, came up with the name and concept of Bistro Theater. The first production was Last Laugh, a comedy murder mystery which was staged at Bent Tree and at the Tate Gym. Rehearsals have begun for the next show, Booger Holler Opry, a blend of jug band music, skits and jokes — sort of a Hee-Haw format. This will be presented in October. So what do you thinK? Did you come to the Last Laugh? Are you coming to the Opry? Would you like to see this format continue? Let us hear from our Tater Patch public.

Since then there have been three more and there will be another Christmas Wassail this coming December. We’d love to hear your comments on this part of Tater Patch. Ideas, suggestions, criticism, or praise — this is the place to let us hear from you.

Yesterday in the Hills is a great historical show, based on a book by the same name. It was adapted for the stage by Lawton Baggs, and has been performed twice before. It deals with the early history of Ball Ground, GA, a great little town just to the south of Tater Patch’s home town of Jasper. This is Ball Ground’s 125th anniversary so Tater Patch is performing this show in honor of that occasion. It will be performed at the Ball Ground Community Center, just off Gilmer Ferry Road (the “main drag” of Ball Ground). Turn across from the police station into the park area and follow the road back to the community center, which is next to the ball fields. The performances will be September 19, 20, 26 and 27. All shows will be at 8 PM, plus a bonus 2 PM matinee on Sept 27. The director, Andy Fowler, is a perennial Tater Patch favorite. This is his directing debut for a Tater Patch Main Stage production and we are sure he will rise to the occasion. We hope you will attend and welcome your questions and comments about the show.
